With our very own Washburn Surgery Center right here in our office we are able to do cataract surgeries, glaucoma surgeries and laser surgery at the same location.  This provides convenience for our patients in being able to get all of your eye care needs taken care of under one roof.  You’re always in great hands at Heartland Eye Care and Washburn Surgery Center.

Making an Appointment

Making an appointment with us is very simple and straightforward. You can always contact us directly by calling our office at 785-235-3322, or you also have the convenient option to request that we contact you by filling out our form here.

Over the phone, we’ll simply ask a few questions about your current eye conditions, your previous treatments or previous diagnosis. This gives us a better idea of your overall needs. We’ll also go ahead and get your contact information during this time.

If you’re ready to schedule your initial consultation with us, you can do so during this call.

After scheduling your appointment with us, we’ll send you our New Patient Packet through the mail. This will ensure that you have all of the information you need for your initial appointment. This will also give you the chance to fill out the paperwork in advance and at your convenience.

Initial Consultation

During your initial appointment, you’ll first check in at our front desk.

From there, your dedicated nurse will call you back to check you in. They’ll check your vision and discuss your eye medical history, the medications you’re currently taking and things of that nature. Whatever we can do to make you feel more comfortable at this time we’ll be gladly do so.

Next, our doctor will be in to see you were a medical eye examination will be given. This allows us to get a full scope of your eye(s) with our state of the art technology.  Your eyes may or may not be dilated at this time depending on your specific needs, so we always recommend you bring a driver in case you are uncomfortable driving after dilation.

Depending on your diagnosis and particular needs, the doctor will explain the next steps. You will be advised of the best options available to you and we’ll cover what that procedure or treatment may involve.

If you are comfortable and ready to move forward at this time, we give you the option to do so during this visit. We pre-block the time needed in advance for your convenience. If you’re ready for the next steps at this time, we’re ready.

However, we’ll always give you the time needed to make sure you’re fully informed and confident in your decisions. If you need more time to think things through, please feel free to do so.

Educating our patients is of the upmost importance to us. The more you know, the more comfortable you feel. At this point we’d love to answer any and all questions that you might have.

Again, if you’re not quite ready at this time, you always have the option to schedule another appointment with us at a later date.

Post Treatment

Depending on your particular treatment or procedure, follow-up appointments will be scheduled at the appropriate times. These appointments are always scheduled before you leave or in some cases scheduled in advance when you make your initial treatment appointment.

For example, cataract follow up is always the next following day. This is simply a check-in to make sure everything is heading in the right direction. After other laser procedures you’ll be scheduled to come back in to see us the following week. Again, this is just to check on your progress after your procedure.
